Groundwater Contamination

How We Handle Groundwater Issues

At A1 Oil Tank Removal, we take groundwater contamination seriously. Clean groundwater is essential for a safe home — and our process is designed to make sure it stays that way. Most of the time, groundwater contamination happens because oil from a leaking tank seeps into the surrounding soil. Once we remove the tank and the contaminated soil, we also install a monitoring well to collect water samples for testing.

Our Groundwater Investigation Process

Here’s what happens step by step:
  1. Remove the tank and contaminated soil
  2. Install a well to take groundwater samples
  3. Test the water at a state-certified lab
In many cases, the groundwater tests clean once the contaminated soil (the source) is completely removed. But if contamination remains, we take further steps to fix it.

When Additional Cleanup Is Needed

If groundwater doesn’t meet NJDEP standards, there are a few options:
  • Natural Attenuation: Sometimes, groundwater naturally cleans itself over time once the source is gone.
  • Enhanced Fluid Recovery (EFR): A process that removes vapors and water from the well, disposes of them properly, and helps speed up cleanup. After EFR, additional water samples are collected to confirm the results.
If the groundwater still isn’t clean after that, we may recommend hydrocarbon treatment or a small re-excavation to ensure everything is fully addressed.

Our Goal: Clean Water and Peace of Mind

We follow all NJDEP guidelines and make sure every contamination issue is resolved properly — no shortcuts, no guesswork. If you’re dealing with groundwater concerns or a failed testA1 Oil Tank Removal will guide you through the process step by step until your site is clean and closed.
